Adam and Margaret's Children
Of six children, only three were to outlive their parents. Smallpox was to take its toll in late 1849. Despite Adam and Margaret both living into their eighties, only one child, Janet, lived into her seventies.
Nonetheless, Margaret was able to move up the ladder to become a "proprietress", however she was to succumb to flames and die in the house she owned as it burnt to the ground. This was the last generation to be both born and die on the islands. Robert was first to move to the mainland in search for a better living.
