Robert and Chrissie's Children
All eight of the Sutherland siblings were born in Longhope, Walls and Flotta, Orkney, Scotland. They were, however the last of this line to be born in Orkney. The prospect of better living standards and an outbreak of smallpox started the migration towards the mainland for some of them.
Although Robert lived all his days on Hoy, his wife, Christiana Anderson, eventually also left the islands behind.
