John Sutherland
BIRTH: 9 July 1861 Born at Lythmore, Thurso, Caithness Scotland. The last son of Thomas and Barbara (nee Gunn) Sutherland. His father was employed as a farm servant there at the time of his birth.
MARRIAGE: 12 December 1879 Robert, while being employed as a farm servant at Halkirk, married Mary MacKenzie. She was two years his elder, at 21 years of age, and was employed as an agricultural servant at Forse, Thurso. The wedding took place at the Church of Scotland, Thurso.
DEATH: 12 December 1945 Robert died in his 83rd year on what would have been his sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. He passed away at the home of his daughter, "Clara", 8a Acadamy Street, Tain. The cause of death was recorded as "senile decay". Oddly, the names of his parents were ommitted from his death certificate.
