"Tom"
BIRTH: 5 April 1899 Thomas Sutherland was born at Culgower, in the parish of Loth, Sutherland. He was the third child to be born there. His father was employed as a farm servant at the time of his birth.
MARRIAGE: 1924 Tom married Ethel Taylor in Rothbury, Northumberland. He was 25 years old at the time, and serving as a police officer for the Northumberland Constabulary at Hexham.
DEATH: 13 May 1957 Thomas died as a result of "coal gas poisoning, self administered whilst the balance of his mind was disturbed" in the kitchen of their hotel, the "Old Hen and Chickens" in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland. He is buried with his wife in an unmarked grave in the town's North Road Cemetery.
