BIRTH: 9 December 1884 Robert Sutherland was born at Greenland Farm, Dunnet in Caithness in the middle of winter in 1884, three months before the death of his oldest sibling, Williamina. With his older brother, Thomas, having died three years earlier, his first two years of his life consisted of just himself and his brother John.
MARRIAGE: 4 July 1907 Bob married Eleanor Scott at 11 Claremont Crescent, Edinburgh while he was a serving Police Constable with the Leith Police Force. He was 22 years of age at the time, a year older than his new wife, who was working as a fruitier's assistant. They were both living together at 296 Leith Walk, Leith. John Haddow and Lily Scott witnessed the ceremony.
MARRIAGE: 28 April 1917 Bob married again, albeit bigamously, Margaret Lea in England after he was posted to Europe with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces during the Great War.
DEATH: 6 April 1964 Robert died, without having had any contact with any of his siblings for half a century, of Congestive Cardiac failure at the age of 79 at the Hill House Hospital, Ramsgate Kent.
The late Robert Bruce Sutherland was cremated at Barham Crematoria, nr Canterbury, Kent on the 14th April 1964 and his cremated remains were scattered in the grounds at Barham. A special Thanks to Moira Mount for this piece of information.
