"Jock"
BIRTH: 11 February 1883 Jock Sutherland was the first child from the marraige of Robert and Mary Sutherland (nee MacKenzie) to survive past infancy. Born at Blingery, Parish of Wick, Caithness where his father was employed as an agricultural labourer. His sister, Williamina, was three years old at the time of his arrival though she was to die by the time Jock was two.
MARRIAGE: 27 June 1902 Jock married Ellen Mackay at the Church of Scotland, Olrig Parish, Caithness. At the time he was 19 years old and working as a farm servant in the Parish from where his bride, two years elder than him, also worked as a farm servant on Hoy Farm.
DEATH: 23 October 1938 John Bruce Sutherland, 56, as stated on his death certificate, died at the Northern Infirmary, Inverness as a result of degenerative myocarditis ( inflammation of the heart muscle which may be a complication during or after various viral, bacterial, or parasitic infectious diseases, such as polio, influenza, rubella or rheumatic fever). At the time of his death, he was living at Ardjackie Farm, Tain.
